The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released long snapper Jordan Matechuk, hours after news broke that the three-year veteran had been busted by American border officials for possession of steroids.

As Natalie Marconi reports, as soon as the Ticats learned of his situation, he was gone in a “snap.”

Matechuk is charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, plus a misdemeanour charge relating to marijuana possession. He could face up to 7 years in jail. His next court date is scheduled for June 13th.

2011 just happens to be the first year of the CFL’s drug testing program.
