Liberal Leader Mark Carney has paused his campaign to deal with Donald Trump’s latest auto tariffs.
On March 26, Trump announced a 25 per cent tariff on all auto imports to the U.S. in a bid to force auto-makers to move their facilities onto American soil.
The auto industries in North America are very intertwined, and industry leaders say the latest round of tariffs will raise the cost of cars for consumers and devastate the sector.
Carney is expected to convene the Canada-U.S. cabinet committee in Ottawa, where they will discuss the latest developments.
While Carney remains in Ottawa, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is set to make several stops in British Columbia, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is expected to meet with union leaders and autoworkers in Windsor.
