Police are seeking the identity of a man wanted for damaging more than 60 vehicles in the Niagara Region over the course of one evening.

The vehicles were damaged in four different towns and cities during the overnight hours of Oct. 27.

Niagara Regional Police say 26 vehicles had windows smashed in St. Catharines, 21 in Niagara Falls, and Grimsby and Lincoln saw 14 vehicles damaged.

In the majority of incidents, a rock was used to break either the rear window or driver’s side window of unoccupied parked vehicles.

In some circumstances, detectives believe the suspect was carrying a dumbbell and used it as an alternative to cause damage to vehicle windows.

With the assistance of area residents, detectives have obtained surveillance footage of the suspect and the vehicle they are believed to be operating.

Police have released a limited description of the suspect, saying he is a man wearing all black clothing and a black mask/hood.

The vehicle the suspect is believed to be operating is described as a dark coloured, four-door sedan, possibly a Honda Civic.

Based on timestamps from surveillance footage obtained by police so far, it appears the suspect started their vehicle destruction journey in Niagara Falls shortly after 2 a.m.

The suspect then went to the north end of the City of St. Catharines and damaged vehicles between 2:45 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., before travelling to Lincoln and damaging vehicles at 4:00 a.m. and 4:12 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009590.
