A man has turned himself into police nearly two weeks after a deadly hit-and-run in Niagara Falls.

Niagara police responded to reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Welland St. and Willoughby Dr. shortly after 10 p.m. on July 2.

Investigators said the truck fled the area without stopping to check on the victim.

Paramedics brought the female pedestrian in her 70s to hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.

The identity of the deceased is not being released.

Detectives seized what they believed to be the suspect vehicle on July 3 in Niagara Falls.

Following an investigation, officers with the Collision Reconstruction Unit were able to identify a male suspect.

But on Thursday, the man turned himself into police.

Chris Spagnol of Niagara Falls has been charged with fail to remain and careless driving cause death.

Spagnol was scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines court Thursday.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009433.
