Calgary Police say they have taken a man into custody in relation to the case of missing 5-year-old girl, Taliyah Marsman. In a news release issued this morning, investigators also say they will be searching rural area about 35 km southeast of the Panorama neighbourhood from where she disappeared.
Police have also released photos of a vehicle they believe the man taken into custody was driving in the area around the time of Taliyah’s disappearance.
CCTV images show Taliyah and her mother Sara Baillie at a Calgary Dairy Queen on the weekend. The footage appears to show Baillie talking to another family inside the restaurant. Police are hoping to speak to that family, since they may be the last people to see Baillie alive, and Taliyah before she went missing.
Witnesses have also told police they saw a girl matching Taliyah’s description Monday morning in the company of a black man with a stocky build, near the area where Baillie’s car was found. They say Taliyah was wearing red or pink boots with white polka-dots, and was carrying a reddish suitcase.
34-year-old Sara Baillie was found dead in her Calgary home Monday night after family members were unable to reach her. Investigators are treating her death as a homicide. The Amber Alert was issued for Taliyah in the early hours Tuesday morning and remains in effect.
Calgary Police say they are currently looking provincially in Alberta for Taliyah and say there is nothing to suggest that she is outside of Calgary, however, they are also not ruling out any possibilities that she might be outside the province.
