A man who was walking with a sword near an Ancaster high school was tasered by police.

It happened in the area of Liam Drive and Derbyshire Street yesterday afternoon. Police say there were a number of 911 calls about the 20 year old including one from the man himself. Investigators say he told 911 that he had a number of edged weapons in his possession and indicated he was going to purchase more.

Police caught up with the man on Parkland adjacent to Bishop Tonnos school and say he refused to drop the sword and began to remove his clothing. The officers tasered him and made the arrest. He was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. Charges are pending.

There’s no indication that there is any connection with the school.
