Man in his 60s dead after serious 2-vehicle crash in downtown Hamilton

A fatal two-vehicle crash has claimed the life of a man in downtown Hamilton and sent two others to hospital.
The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday.
When police first arrived on scene, they found a man in his 60s inside a grey four-door car in serious condition.
Authorities say that immediate, lifesaving measures were taken to save the man’s life but that he was later pronounced dead after being transported to hospital.

The two other men, both in their 20s, were also transported hospital in non-life-threatening condition. Police say they were driving a separate brown car.
It remains unclear what caused the crash.
Images from the scene showed two heavily damaged vehicles on the sidewalk, one in front of the other, just outside The Hamilton Club.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.
“Residents, businesses, and anyone who was travelling in the vicinity are requested to review their dash camera footage from that time period,” reads a statement from Hamilton police.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit by calling 905-546-4753.
The subsequent police investigation closed multiple sections of King Street and the Frank A. Cooke (FRAC) Transit Terminal for several hours.
As a result, morning commuters in the downtown area saw heavy delays and public transit had to be re-routed around the area.
Motorist travelling eastbound through Hamilton were re-routed down Bay Street to York Boulevard to circumvent the police investigation.
In addition to the re-routing of traffic, several major HSR bus routes had to undergo detours — including many of the mountain busses that usually stop at the transit terminal on MacNab Street South.
By 10:30 a.m. Monday, the City of Hamilton took to social media to announce that the FRAC Transit Terminal had re-opened, along with the intersections that were closed.
