A 36-year-old welland man died this morning when a huge concrete block hit him in the head. It happened in the bush at White Meadows Farms. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim had been working with another employee of White Meadows Farms inside the sugar bush off Roland Road. They were using a tractor to build a bridge when something went terribly wrong and the victim was crushed by a large block of concrete.

White Meadows is a big maple syrup producer. The area where the man was killed is a popular tourist attraction, visitors can walk in there and see how the trees are tapped for maple syrup.

Today that area was blocked by police cruisers.
