Man charged with arson following Brantford apartment fire

A 65-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fire at an apartment building in Brantford over the weekend.

Emergency crews were called to an “active fire” at a residential building on Fordview Crt. around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

The building was evacuated while members of the Brantford Fire Department worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

Two elderly residents were taken to hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation.

Brantford police and the Ontario Fire Marshal were called to the scene to investigate the cause and the fire was deemed suspicious.

Kenneth Shergold, of Brantford, was arrested and charged with arson – own property and arson – disregard for human life.
