(Updated) A 56 year old man has been charged with careless driving after a car slammed into a convenience store in central Hamilton.

Police say just before 2 this morning, the driver of a speeding car lost control and hit the building at the corner of Main and Wentworth. No one was hurt, but Main was closed for a couple of hours for clean-up.

Engineers are checking the structural integrity of the building today.
