Man charged after stabbing another man in St. Catharines parking lot

Police have charged a man following a stabbing in St. Catharines on Saturday night that sent a 40-year-old man to hospital.
Investigators say the incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. when a man approached another man sitting in his car in a parking lot on Gale Cres. near Riordon St.
The suspect asked the man in the vehicle if he had change for a $20 bill. When the man said he did not have change, officers say the suspect stabbed the victim in his hand.
Police say the victim called them after he drove away from the scene. Paramedics then brought him to hospital for treatment, but he has since been released.

Investigators found the suspect close to the scene of the stabbing and arrested him.
Kelvin Justin Bascus, 38, has been charged with assault with a weapon.
Bascus was scheduled for a bail hearing on Sunday in a Hamilton courthouse. Police say he is now in the custody of Ontario Correctional Services.
