Man assaulted by group in St. Catharines left with life-threatening injuries

Niagara police are asking the public for help in tracking down those responsible for an aggravated assault that has left a person with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say an altercation broke out at a St. Catharines establishment Sunday around 12:03 a.m. near St. Paul Street and James Street.
Police aren’t sure how many people they’re looking for, and say that an “unknown amount of males” assaulted the victim during the incident.
The man who was injured was left with life-threatening injuries and had to be transported to an out-of-region hospital.
What led up to the altercation remains unknown, and investigators say they have reason to believe that this was not a random event.
Police say they’re looking for additional witnesses and are asking businesses and residents in the area to review their surveillance footage between 12:00 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on March 24.
