An armed home invasion in Oakville came to an end after the fleeing suspects crashed their car and then led officers on a foot chase through a provincial park.

Two men were arrested but a third suspect remains at large.

The initial call brought officers out to a residence near Upper Middle Road and Third Line around midnight Monday.

Police say two men broke into the home by smashing the glass on the house’s front door.

They came face-to-face with the homeowner and demanded cash and jewellery while brandishing a black handgun, according to police. The thieves then struck one of the residents over the head before fleeing in a white BMW.

“Shortly after leaving the scene HRPS officers observed the suspect vehicle on Upper Middle Road where it made its way into Bronte Creek Provincial Park,” police said in an early update. “There the suspect vehicle collided with a wooden post with the suspects attempting to flee on foot.”

A large-scale search of the park ensued, with resources from the departments K9 and tactical unit joining forces with provincial police to sweep the area.

On Tuesday, police announced that they had laid charges against the two men they had managed to take into custody.

18-year-old Bangalee Jabateh, of no fixed address, has been charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and obstruction of a peace officer.

20-year-old Jaheim Turner of Mississauga is facing two charges, one for robbery with a firearm and one for possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Both men continue to be held in custody and are awaiting a bail hearing.

A third suspect remains outstanding.
