Man, 39, charged in fatal crash in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara police have arrested a 39-year-old man following a fatal crash that claimed a teenager’s life in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Dimitris Marianos, of Niagara Falls, has been charged with causing death by criminal negligence and causing bodily harm by criminal negligence.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Concession 7 Rd. and Line 6 Rd. around 2 p.m. on Aug. 28.

Police say a 19-year-old man was driving a silver Subaru Impreza southbound on Concession 7 Rd. with a 19-year-old woman in the passenger seat.

A 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in an Audi R8 were heading northbound on Line 6 Rd.

Police say the Subaru attempted to make an eastbound turn onto Line 6 Rd. when the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the Subaru was taken to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries. The teenage passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
