Hamilton police say a 24-year-old man has died of his injuries Friday following a serious overnight collision on the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway Monday.

Officers arrived around 1:30 a.m. to find one vehicle engulfed in flames and a second vehicle flipped onto its roof on the parkway between Upper Wentworth and Upper James streets.

Investigators say a 16-year-old boy driving a 2023 Mercedes YCG was speeding when it collided with a 2022 Lexus IS, which rolled several times before coming to rest. The Mercedes flipped onto its roof nearly 150 metres from the Lexus.

Officers say the 24-year-old man driving the Lexus was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Friday, police say he succumbed to his injuries.

The 16-year-old G2 driver of the Mercedes and his passenger sustained minor injuries.

No charges have been laid at this time.

The Linc was initially closed in both directions between Upper Wentworth and Upper James streets but has since reopened.

Police’s collision reconstruction unit is investigating.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact investigators at 905-546-4753.
