London man with ties to Niagara released from custody

London police have released a public safety advisory involving a local man who has been released from custody with ties to Niagara.

On July 28, officers received information about threatening statements made by a man.

Investigators say the threats made were to harm, sexually assault and kill a teenage girl, who was known to him.

On July 30, police arrested and charged Connor Bennett, 19, of London, Ont. with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

After a search warrant executed by officers, evidence was gathered during the investigation that led to Bennett also being charged with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

On Tuesday, Bennett appeared in London court and was released from custody by the courts after a contested bail hearing.

The accused was released with strict bail conditions which include living in Thorold, Ont. and not possessing any electronic devices or anything that can have access to Wi-Fi.

Other conditions include not communicating with anybody under the age of 18 unless in continuous company of his surety and not possessing any weapons.

Detectives are also seeking to identify anyone who may have information relevant to this investigation or who believes they may have had contact with Bennett in similar circumstances.

Anyone who believes Bennett may be breaching a condition of his release is asked to contact police and should not place themselves at risk. In an emergency, call 911.
