With just weeks until the Rio Olympics stories of the Zika virus, pollution and poor water quality continue to be in the forefront, but for some athletes those topics are not on their mind. Oakville native Lee Parkhill will represent Canada in sailing and just got back from a two week training camp in Brazil. Parkhill has been sailing in Oakville since he was 9. Now the 27 year old is heading to the Rio Olympics to compete in sewage tainted water.

“At this point in my career having qualified for the Olympics and that being the main goal I’m not really worried about that stuff and representing Canada has taken over any other worries.”

Some 1 400 Olympians will compete in water sports in Rio. The International Sailing Federation says four athletes have already gotten sick during this year’s test events.
