Local groups tidy up one of Hamilton’s unique features

There are hundreds of alleys in the city of Hamilton, and many of them are in such rough shape, that you wouldn’t want to walk down them.

However, local groups are joining forces to tidy up one of the city’s unique features. Volunteers at Willow’s Place, members of Beautiful Alleys, and The City of Hamilton team are trying to clean up all the cities alleyways.

With more than 700 members, the group called “Beautiful Alleys” organize a massive cleanup twice a year.

The City of Hamilton’s Jason Thorne says, “I think there can be a stigma about alleyways, and this art, the cleanups help to change that and help stitch these alleyways back into the neighborhood and the community.”

Beautiful Alleys has been working on a new project that runs parallel to Barton Street. They’re hoping to clean up the entire stretch between Birch and Sanford for kids and cyclists to use safely.
