Kitten in shed saved

An eight-week old kitten is alive tonight thanks to an animal lover who heard him in distress.

Maryann Hale called the Hamilton SPCA — after she heard the kitten meowing from inside a maintenance trailer on Upper Wentworth Street. They had to cut the lock when they couldn’t reach the trailer’s owner. Inside, they found the tiny orange kitten hiding under a riding lawn mower. Hale believes he had been stuck in there since Tuesday: “He’s very thin. You can tell, look at his eyes. He’s dehydrated. He hasn’t had anything for three days. Three days. And that’s maximum for a kitten. He’d be dead today if I wasn’t holding him right now.”

The SPCA isn’t sure when the kitten snuck into the trailer — but says he’s in good condition. Hale is fostering him until he finds a permanent home.
