Kids charged in attempted abduction

A disturbing story is emerging from Toronto tonight. A young mother says a 12-year old girl and 14-year old boy tried to take her baby, and the pair is now facing charges.
This is a case that police are saying is of major concern, given just how young the accused are.
At just 12 and 14-years old, they’ve now been charged with abduction, robbery, and some lesser charges. The incident happened Thursday night at around 11 o’clock in Toronto’s east end while the mother was walking home from the GO station. It’s alleged the pair grabbed the 29-year old mother from behind, punched and kicked her, and demanded she hand over her money, cellphone and 21-month-old baby, who they threatened to hurt.
Paramedics say injuries to the mother appear to be minor. And luckily, she managed to get her daughter back from the 12-year-old in the scuffle.
Police arrested the suspects about an hour after this all happened. And determined it wasn’t an isolated incident.
Toronto Police Inspector Art Little: “There’s no apparent injuries to the child. The mother has suffered bruising and obviously the trauma of the event. Through investigation by our detectives, it was determined that these same two suspects were responsible for the earler purse snatch in the Cedarbrae area. They have been processed and have appeared in court in ‘show cause’ hearing in the Scarborough courts this morning. And the investigation will continue from there.”
The boy and girl cannot be named because of their age. Police say a psychiatric evaluation has been requested for the both of them.
