CHCH journalists take home honours at RTDNA Central Region Awards

Several CHCH journalists were honoured for their work at an awards ceremony in Toronto last night.

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Central Region Awards Night recognizes journalistic excellence in broadcasting and digital media across different regions ahead of the national RTDNA Awards Gala scheduled for Nov. 7.

CHCH cameraman Duane Worth won the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented to people who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service and continued excellence during the course of their careers in broadcast and digital journalism.

“I am completely shocked at receiving the RTDNA Lifetime Achievement Award last night,” said Worth, who has worked at CHCH for 45 years.

“Every day I come in, I work my hardest to do the best I can. Thanks to everyone.”

Morning Live co-host Simone Gavros won the Feature News (Small/Medium Market) award for her story about a police initiative in Hamilton’s downtown aiming to stop illegal open drug use and connect people with addiction services. Camera operator Keith Johnson and editor Dave Pacella also helped produce this award-winning piece.

“It was really important to highlight the safety in downtown Hamilton and Hamilton police set it all up too so we were able to do the whole walkalong…I’m really happy that I won and Keith won with me,” Gavros said.
