A downtown Hamilton church is holding a public contents sale before shutting its doors after 200 years.
First-Pilgrim United Church on Main Street East will permanently close on Oct. 1.
The church will host the liquidation sale on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Decades of accumulated items — from vintage mirrors and light fixtures to church desks, filing cabinets and unique local history pieces — will be sold to the public on a cash-only basis to ensure they find a new home in the community,” reads a statement from the church.
“We had a drop in on Tuesdays where we would have volunteers preparing usually a hot meal,” says William Mackinnon of First-Pilgrim United Church.
“We had the perfect venue for being able to look and care for pets that may be a little bit aggressive, we had different spaces in here where we could tuck people in and get them cared for,” says Sherri Ramirez, community relations and outreach director for De Mazenod Door Outreach.
