Kate Middleton gives birth to a girl

Royal fans rejoiced today as the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby girl.

The baby weighs 8 pounds and 3 ounces. According to the palace, Kate and her child are both doing well. No word yet on the child’s name, but when William and Kate had their first child, officials waited 2 days before announcing his name.

Fans decked out in patriotic British flags danced and cheered outside the Lindo Wing at Saint Mary’s hospital where Kate gave birth this morning at 8:34 a.m. local time.

Many have been camping out on the sidewalk for more than a week eagerly waiting for the news. “We’ve got a princess,” says Maria Scott, a royal fan. “She’s given birth to a little girl so we’ve got a princess. Completed that little family! Yes, it’s a princess.”
