Jobs down, unemployment up in August

Statistics Canada reports the country lost jobs in August, the first decline in five months.

The unemployment rate edged up one tenth of point to 7.3 per cent last month, with about 5,500 jobs lost.

This is the second straight month that job creation was virtually flat in Canada.

The good news is there was a modest gain in full-time employment of 25,700. Part-time work declined by 31,200.
