That’s when Nik Wallenda will walk across Niagara Falls on a wire!

“I’m thrilled that it is finally now official. When I was signing those agreements with them I started to tear up a little bit.”

Wallenda says the deal for the walk wasn’t finalized until last night, when it was signed with New York state parks and the Niagara Parks Commission. It wasn’t easy for Wallenda to get approval for the walk: the NPC originally said no, saying it doesn’t allowing stunting.

Wallenda had several meetings with the commission and the province before he was given the green light in February.

Wallenda will attempt to walk across a steel cable about five centimetres in diameter. The walk – which will be televised – will take him about 40 minutes. An estimated 125,000 people are expected to watch in person.

Training at the Seneca Niagara casino starts next week. It will be open to the public.

The last person to cross Niagara Falls on a tightrope was James Hardy in 1896.
