There was good news for Ontario potato farmers Wednesday.

The province has announced an investment of almost half-a-million dollars for a potato washing, packing, and distribution facility in Flamborough.

The 40,000 square foot facility for “Earth Fresh Foods” will more than double the company’s processing capacity and create at least 44 new jobs.

Liberal MPP Ted McMeekin was at the future site of the facility and explained how important the money is.

“Newer, more efficient technology, will mean significantly lower production costs, which is always good when you’re in business.

And it will help the company’s new specialty products get to the North American market place.”

The new facility will be able to produce about 312,000 pounds of potatoes per day.
