Interstellar

Interstellar is a science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception). The ensemble cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, and Ellen Burstyn.

In the future, governments and economies across the globe have collapsed, food is scarce, NASA is no more, and the 20th Century is to blame. A mysterious rip in spacetime opens and it’s up to whatever is left of NASA to explore and offer up hope for mankind. INTERSTELLAR chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

Nolan wanted to ensure the theories and science used in Interstellar was as accurate as possible, so he brought theoretical physicist Kip Thorne on board to help ground everything in reality. The film promises to be a visual spectacle as Nolan chose to shoot much of Interstellar in the 70mm IMAX format – a format he has dabbled with on his last few films. The sheer size of IMAX cameras make them pretty unwieldily, but Hoyte van Hoytema, the film’s cinematographer, was able to make a handheld rig that allowed him to shoot indoor scenes easier. They even mounted a camera on the nose of a Learjet.
