Icy taxiway at Hamilton airport causes Porter Airlines flight to slide off pavement

Wednesday’s freezing rain caused a Porter Airlines flight to slide off the taxiway at John C. Munro International Airport.

A Porter spokesperson says flight PD 478 from Edmonton landed safely, but then lost traction on the way to the terminal, resulting in the nose wheel sliding off the pavement.

Porter says the airport briefly shut down runways as a precaution and diverted two flights.

78 passengers and crew were on board, but no one was injured.

When asked if the plane was damaged, the airline said the aircraft was inspected before it returned to service.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said they are aware of the incident and are gathering information, but have not deployed investigators to the airport.

Just last week in Halifax, another Porter Airlines flight slid on the taxiway after landing and got stuck in the snow.

No one was injured in that incident either.
