Ice bucket in fridge recall poses risk of causing ‘choking, or laceration’ from debris

Health Canada is recalling some refrigerators with a fragile part that can easily break and leave bits of broken plastic in the ice bucket, which could lead to choking or cause lacerations if consumed.
The recall was issued on Feb. 8 and extends to Frigidaire-branded side-by-side refrigerators produced between 2015 and 2019.

According to the government’s recall website, the mechanism that dispenses ice has a fragile assembly that can easily break and leave pieces of plastic in the ice bucket that can then go on to be dispensed into consumer’s cups.
While there have been no reported incidents or injuries in Canada, the United States has seen 343 reports of broken plastic and two reports of injuries.
The government says anyone who owns one of the affected products should immediately stop using the ice makers and empty and discard the ice.
“Consumers can also visit icebucketrecall.ca or contact the company at icebucketrecall@electrolux.com to see if their specific serial number is included in this recall,” reads a statement on the government website.
