Husband charged with first-degree murder in Burlington shooting
The woman that was shot and killed at her home on Number 2 Sideroad in Burlington yesterday has been identified as 57-year-old Laura Grant.
Laura was a longtime EMS dispatcher who worked out of Mississauga. Condolences have been pouring in on social media from paramedics across the country today, after she was found dead yesterday afternoon.
Her husband, 57-year-old Ken Soederhuysen, is charged with her murder.
Longtime friend, Bill White, says he was just at the couple’s home on Saturday where they hosted a BBQ for friends. He said they were smiling and laughing and nothing was out of the ordinary.
Burlington’s Mayor Marianne Meed Ward reacted to the news today, tweeting “a horrifying event occurred in Burlington last night – women should be able to feel safe in their own homes. ”
Soederhuysen had a bail hearing today at the Milton Courthouse. Since he is charged with first-degree murder, he is automatically remanded into police custody and is awaiting his next court appearance.
