Hurricane Matthew knocks out power to 600,000 homes in Florida

Florida State Governor Rick Scott says more than 600,000 homes are without power in Florida this morning as Hurricane Matthew makes landfall. 3.2 million people have been told to evacuate as a state of emergency remains in effect for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
The deadly Category 3 storm is packing winds close to 200 km/hr winds, and there is concern it could produce storm surges up to 11 feet.
As Matthew makes landfall, several airports in the region have shut down, many local businesses have boarded up and emergency shelters are reported to be filling up .
Hurricane Matthew has already claimed the lives of 283 in Haiti, when it tore through the Caribbean.
