Human west nile in Oakville

The first human case of west nile virus in Oakville for 2012 has been reported.

A woman in her thirties has contracted the virus, bringing Halton’s total number of human cases to 11.

Doctors say about 80% of people who get infected with west nile don’t experience symptoms, while 20% develop a fever.

Health officials are reminding people to cover up and wear light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts and pants with tightly-woven fabric to avoid getting bitten.
