Historic Burlington motel meets the wrecking ball

The coastal view of downtown Burlington began changing a little on Friday.

Mayor Rick Goldring and Ward 2 Councillor Marianne Meed Ward took the first hammer swings for the demolition of the Riviera on the Lake Motel, located on Lakeshore Road, just east of Brant Street.

The dilapidated old motel is the future site for the Bridgewater Project; a condo, hotel and retail complex on the waterfront.
