Many services and stores may be closed Monday since Family Day is a public holiday in Ontario.
Here’s a look at what is open and closed in the Hamilton and Niagara regions for Feb. 16, 2026.
CLOSED
- Banks and government offices;
- Garbage, green bin, recycling bins and bulk waste will happen one day later for the rest of the week;
- All LCBO and Beer Store locations;
- City of Hamilton Animal Services office counter and shelter is closed;
- All Hamilton Public Library branches are closed, including no Bookmobile services or Extended Access/Study Hall services;
- Most grocery stores and malls will be closed.
OPEN
- Canada Post says mail collection and deliveries will happen on Monday;
- There are not many major tourist attractions open except Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada;
- St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre will be open;
- The Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park will be open;
- Hamilton Waterfront Outdoor Rink at Pier 8 is open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.;
- Outdoor skating is also available at the Burlington Rotary Centennial Pond from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.;
- The Hamilton Art Gallery is open with free admission for Family Day Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
- The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will be open;
- Family Day Fun Fest at the Chippawa, Community Centre, Stamford Centre and Victoria Avenue Libraries;
- Several museums are open and offer Family Day programming in Hamilton;
- Some recreation centres and arenas will be open on a Family Day schedule.
Transit Schedules:
- GO Transit buses and trains will be running on a Saturday schedule;
- Hamilton Street Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule, with the last bus leaving downtown at around midnight with no HSR Route 12 Wentworth and 42 Mohawk East service;
- MyRide in Waterdown and Trans-Cab will operate on a Sunday schedule;
- Burlington Transit will operate on a holiday schedule, with customer service and specialized dispatch services closed;
- Niagara Transit will operate on a modified service Monday, with conventional bus service in St. Catharines running from 10:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Niagara Falls from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., in Welland from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and no regional route services.
