Health Canada issues warning about UV lights claiming to kill COVID-19 germs

Health Canada is warning Canadians about the use of ultraviolet lights and wands that claim to disinfect again COVID-19.

The agency says these are unproven claims.

“To date, Health Canada has not received evidence to support these claims,” said a recall alert.

The agency is asking the public to report the sale or advertisement of these products.

Authorities say ultraviolet C products have been linked to a dangerous form of radiation.

Although it can destroy some germs on non-porous surfaces, if used on the skin, there is a risk that it can cause harm or injury.
