The Pan Am Games are now just 37 days away, and the city of Hamilton is getting ready to host a lot more than international soccer.

As we get closer to July, Gore Park will transform into one of the central hubs for cultural events during the Pan Am games, and locally they aim to make these games a celebration that goes way beyond sport.

Starting next month, Hamilton will play host to 32 international soccer matches, and today the city launched its campaign to kick up their job as host.

To compliment sport, the city is hosting 16 days of cultural events throughout the city. Gore Park will become the Pan Am Promenade Celebration Square. From 11 am to midnight the main stage will have a mix of Canadian and foreign music and art. From July 9th to 12th Gage Park will host a parade of cultures along with a 3 on 3 youth soccer tournament.

There will also be events on Ottawa Street. Lauren Olsen is the Marketing and Event Coordinator for the Ottawa Street BIA “We will have tents on the street every day, art to share with people every day, finds to share with people every day, and food that changes up every single day.”

If you don’t have tickets for the final soccer match but you want to be part of the big crowd experience, you can head down to pier 4 park where they have capacity for between 10 and 15 thousand fans to watch the match on big screens.

Super Crawl organizer Tim Potocic is organizing the showing at pier 4 and says that this event only happens once, so “when these opportunities arise, you want to be a part of them.”

And the celebration is just over a month away. The final event will take place at pier 4 park on the final day of the games where there will be a fireworks display to send the games off with a bang.
