The Hamilton man wanted in Friday’s murder at an apartment across from our CHCH studios has turned himself in to police.
Police had been looking for Gary Michael White, who is facing a charge of second degree murder. 48-year old White surrendered to Hamilton police this morning. He was wanted in Friday’s murder of his cousin Joseph Colson.
The 43-year old was reportedly shot in the neck at 170 Jackson street West apartment shortly after 5pm Friday afternoon. Dozens of officers surrounded the three-floor building, many of them with their guns drawn. Colson lived in the building, police say the incident started in a basement unit and continued into the hallway.
White has been charged with second degree murder.
“He will be pleading not guilty.” Says his lawyer, Sandee Smordin.
Paramedics said Colson was shot but police won’t comment on the weapon used, the cause of death or the motive. This is Hamilton’s 5th murder this year. His lawyer says White will be at the John Sopinka courthouse tomorrow morning for a bail hearing.
