Hamiltonians voice concern to councillors over 6.3% property tax increase

Hamiltonians had put city hall to task this afternoon, in response to this year’s proposed municipal budget, that includes a property tax hike of more than $300 on average.
Councillors heard numerous delegations and their thoughts about how the city spends its public dollars.
The city initially predicted in late October that property taxes would rise 6.9 per cent.
However, Mayor Andrea Horwath directed staff to find savings across the board. In turn, a 6.3 per cent bump in property taxes was put forward.
Other Hamiltonians were advocating at City Hall to also think about solutions regarding climate change, downtown businesses and student housing.
