Hamilton women lost at sea in the Bahamas return home

Eight Hamilton women who were stranded on a boat in the Bahamas for more than 24 hours are back home.

“It’s just so unreal to be back at home,” Andrea Lombardo told Morning Live. “It didn’t seem real walking in the front door this morning.”

Lombardo was part of a group of 13, who travelled to Riu Paradise Island in the Bahamas for a bachelorette party.

Eight of the thirteen girls decided to take a boat excursion to Exuma Island for the day, but they never made it.

They say their guides didn’t seem to know where they were going.

After six hours at sea and no sign of land, they ran out of gas and had to spend the night on the boat.

“We saw nothing, there was only open water ,” she remembered.

“As soon as we woke up, we just didn’t know if we were going to make it because the waves were so big and there’s not a boat or anyone in sight.”

The group was rescued by commercial fishermen after more than a day on the water.

They left the island Sunday and arrived at Pearson around 2 a.m. Monday.
