Hamilton teen given Carnegie Medal for saving man in Bayfront Park

Hamilton’s Ezekiel, or Zeke Fox, saved an unhoused person from a burning tent in Bayfront Park back in 2025.

That act of heroism is being recognized by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.

Fox was driving home from a friend’s house on Jan. 5 when he saw the fire. He pulled over and that is when he heard the screams.

He called his dad to get him to call 911. Fox then called his mom who told him to back away from the blaze. Instead he ran to the tent and pulled Shawn Goodwin out, rolled him in the snow and put the fire out. Goodwin survived.

The Carnegie Medal is given throughout Canada and the U.S. to those who enter extreme danger while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.

The commission is based in Pittsburgh, Pa.
