Hamilton teen charged after stolen vehicle involved in crash in Puslinch, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges against a 16-year-old from Hamilton and four other young people after a stolen vehicle was involved in a collision in Puslinch, Ont.

On May 22 at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle at a highway service centre on Highway 401 westbound in Puslinch, Ont.

According to authorities, the vehicle fled the scene and was soon involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle on the highway. The three occupants in the vehicle were transported to hospital with minor injuries. Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate following the incident.

OPP say a parallel investigation resulted in five youths being arrested – one of which was a 16-year-old from Hamilton who has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Operation causing bodily harm
  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver (three counts)
  • Disobey sign
  • Fail to signal stop

Police add the other four “16-year-olds from Hamilton, Dundas and Mississauga have each been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.”

The identities of the accused are all protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
