Hamilton residents decorate for a good cause this Halloween

On 133 Robinson St., you will find Paul Leger’s spooky creations, and he’s inviting you to enter if you dare; an invitation that’s also for a good cause.

“I’ve been doing this for 8 years, I’ve made it even better every year,” he says.

“I also do a food box donation drive for the homeless and the Good Shepherd. I think it’s really good especially right now.”

Ledger says the cause is personal for him.

“I was homeless in Toronto for two years and I know what it’s like, so now that I have my place and you know life’s great for me, I wanna give back to the community and the homeless people who have nothing.”

Meanwhile over in Park Row South, another Hamilton man is using his chainsaw and killer instincts to also collect donations for Good Shepherd; something he’s been doing for fourteen years.

“We thought it would be a great chance to raise the money for charity and I volunteered with Good Shepherd when I was in high school – that was a charity that I knew a little about and in the end we just started collecting monetary and canned donations for them and it’s just stuck ever since,” says Lee Brough.

These houses may look like just another Halloween display, but for the homeowners they’re so much more than that. This spooky season, they’re hoping people will be drawn to monsters while helping make someone’s life a little better.

Nick Bond is also set to host their annual Halloween party.

An event that started ten years ago is back to thrill, chill, and raise money for Ronald McDonald house that supported Nick and his wife when their son, Laughlin, was rushed to hospital with a heart condition when he was just seven weeks old.

“He was on life support for almost a week but everything they did, everything that Sick Kids Hospital does for you is absolutely amazing,” he says.

Bond said that so far, they’ve raised over $12,000, and Halloween is an opportunity to do something good.

“This is all for the kids,” he says.

“That’s what we do it for. Everything’s for the kids.”
