Hamilton police say they have completed their investigation into a collision on Centennial parkway in May 2021 that resulted in a death.

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, just after 5:30 p.m. Hamilton police and Hamilton paramedics responded to Centennial Parkway South near King Street in Hamilton for a three-vehicle collision.

A 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was travelling northbound on Centennial Parkway when it struck the rear of a 2016 Kia Sonata vehicle, which then subsequently hit a 2014 Jeep.

Police say the 43-year-old driver died as a result of his injuries.

Investigators say from examination of evidence, it was determined that his vehicle was travelling around 30 km/h over the posted 60 km/h speed limit and he was not wearing his seat belt.

The Centre of Forensic Sciences determined the driver had drugs in his system at the time of death. Police say the concentration of drugs may have impaired his ability to operate a vehicle safely.

Hamilton Police say they would like to remind the public about the dangers of impaired driving.
