A suspended Hamilton Police officer from the guns and gangs unit is facing additional Police Service Act charges.
Detective Constable Robert Hansen was already found guilty of convincing an informant to plant a gun inside a suspected drug trafficker’s home. Today at a Police Service Act hearing Hansen pled not guilty to a new charge of insubordination. When Hansen was suspended from the Hamilton Police force back in 2012 he was told not to contact Craig Ruthowsky, another suspended officer tied to Hansen’s criminal case. Hansen is alleged to have spoken with Ruthowsky between June and July 2015, disobeying his police suspension order. He will appear in Superior Court for his criminal sentencing on May 19th, his next PSA hearing will follow on May 30th.
If Hansen’s found guilty of the PSA charge he could face dismissal.
