Hamilton police investigating suspicious early morning fire on George Street

The Hamilton Fire Department says police are investigating an early morning fire on George Street they have deemed suspicious.

At approximately 4:51 a.m., fire crews responded to 196 George St. for a reported structure fire.

Upon arriving on scene, officials found an exterior fire located on the boarded up front door. Crews quickly knocked down the fire, however it did spread into the awning above.

The fire department says the blaze does appear to be suspicious due to the fire starting at the front door and there being no utility services to the building.

At this time, estimated damages are set at $5,000.

Police are on scene investigating.
