Hamilton police investigate fire at downtown condo

Hamilton police are investigating a fire at a downtown condominium Tuesday night allegedly sparked by a break-in.
Emergency crews were called to the area of James and Beckley Streets just after 9 p.m. to the Chateau Royale condominiums at 135 James St. South.
Officers believe a group tried to steal copper wiring from a transformer in the building.
The fire started on the top of the transformer after the wires were cut.
Hamilton fire told CHCH News the fire was quickly put out with a fire extinguisher.
The blaze caused a 45 minute power outage, which has since been restored.
According to firefighters, there was one person trapped in the elevator on the first floor.
Emergency crews were able to have them freed.
No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.
Police are looking for four to five suspects, but they say that CCTV footage was lost during the power outage.
