Hamilton police investigate after body of man found near Bayfront pier

Hamilton police are investigating after the body of a man was found Thursday afternoon floating in the harbour near the Bayfront pier.

Police say the body was reported to be floating in the water near Bayfront Pier at around 12:33 p.m.

Officers say the man’s death does not appear suspicious at this time, but they have not yet determined his cause of death.

Detectives say an investigation is underway to establish whether there is any criminal element involved.

Investigators say they have engaged with the coroner, and the matter is now a coroner’s case.

Police are working to identify the man, and notify the man’s family.

The investigation remains ongoing.
