Hamilton police have released the findings of a safety summit that was held downtown last month.
More than 50 organizations from a cross-section of the population were invited to take part.
Not surprisingly, the number one concern was safety.
“One of the many things that people brought up about this was feeling unsafe downtown. Individuals seeing social disorder around them, seeing open and public drug use, being one of the barriers for the success of our downtown,” says Daniel Mosannef from Hamilton police’s Crime Information Analysis Unit.
“There are a number of different action items that the Hamilton Police Service has taken from the summit. One of these is the establishment of a downtown sub station in Jackson Square,” says Mosannef. “As a result, in the last couple of weeks, there have been initial discussions of how we actualize this and what this will look like in practice, with an intended start date of June 22.”
There is no word on how much the sub station will cost or who will pay for it.
