Hamilton police say they are investigating a report of an assault on Princess Street Friday morning.
Police initially told CHCH News they responded to a report of a single shot fired in the area just after 7:30 a.m.
Following an investigation, authorities have not been able to confirm that a firearm was involved in the assault or following standoff.
Instead, Officers say they responded to a report of an assault at a residence on the street.
When investigators located the man believed to be the suspect, he barricaded himself inside the home.
No injuries are reported at this time.
Officers continue to investigate this situation and say they have an open line of communication with the man inside the home.
Investigators have closed the road between Lottridge Street and Sherman Avenue so they can continue to hold the scene.
