Hamilton police arrest wanted man with loaded gun near Cannon Street

Hamilton police say they recovered a loaded gun while arresting a 47-year-old man in the Crown Point neighbourhood.

While on patrol last Friday, officers spotted a man near Cannon Street East and Grosvenor Avenue North, who they recognized for having an outstanding arrest warrant from June 2023.

Police were able to apprehend the man and take him into custody. A search later revealed him to be in possession of a loaded firearm.

Authorities have charged Jason Kane with several firearm-related charges, including:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm;
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm;
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm- Loaded;
  • Carless Use, Carry, Transport, Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition;
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon; and
  • Four counts of Possession Contrary to Order.

Kane was previously arrested in 2020 and pleaded guilty to dozens of break-ins across Hamilton and Burlington.

During a court sentencing, Kane admitted to smashing stolen vehicles into some buildings in order to gain access.

At the time of his arrest in 2020, officers recovered over $40,000 in stolen goods.
